The Golden Statue outside Batu Caves - one of the most popular Hindu Shrines in Malaysia- is of Lord Muruga, whom the Hindus regard as a manifestation of valour, beauty, youthfulness, vitality, masculinity and happiness. Hereare some other interesting facts about the statue :
- At 42.7m, it is the world's tallest Lord Muruga Statue, and the tallest statue of Hindu deity in Malaysia.
- It is made of 1550cu m of concrete, 250 tones of steel bars and 300L of gold paint brought from Thailand.
- The statue was built at a cost of RM2 million.
- It took 15 sculptars and 15 other general workers over three years to complete the structure.
